Alesis had a real hit on their hands the minute that studio owners heard the Monitor 1 and they have improved on that already legendary design with the Monitor 1 Mk2. This monitor features a new 6.5" polypropylene low-frequency driver for tighter more accurate bass response. Alesis also redesigned the tweeter and enhanced the cabinets incorporating a new mirror image design and new porting. With this new design the Mk2 handles more power (120W program 200W peak) provides a wider frequency range (45Hz - 20 k Hz) and an even more impressive level of output. Mk2s are 4 ohm cabinets and measure 8.5"W x 15"H x 10"D.It didn`t take long to realize Alesis had a hit on their hands. Just a few short months after its introduction Alesis Monitor One Studio Reference Monitor was a winner of the prestigious TEC Award and on its way to becoming one of the most popular near field speakers on the market.The reason was as clear as its own crisp flawless sound super-flat wide frequency range clear imaging high-power handling and excellent bass transient response. These features add up to a unique ability to create incredibly accurate mixes that translate perfectly to every playback system.Monitor One became an instant favorite among professional engineers and studio owners as well as earning it a place in countless home studios.Obviously there was only one thing left to do. Make it even better.With such a successful platform to build on Alesis` engineers wisely settled for incremental improvements designed to coax even better performance from their monitors.They started with a new 6.5” polypropylene low-frequency driver for tighter more accurate bass response. Then matched it with a newly redesigned 1” pure silk-dome high-frequency transducer for even smoother more accurate detail and response and a broader sound stage.They improved the overall frequency response (changing from 45 Hz – 18 k Hz to 45 Hz – 20 k Hz +/- 3 d B) and coupled it with more efficient power handling. They also provided magnetic shielding to allow use in close proximity to video and computer monitors.Perfectionists that they are however our engineers didn`t just settle for tinkering under the hood. The cabinet was redesigned for a new and more attractive professional finish and are now mirror image; left/right pair for symmetrical speaker placement.But more than just cosmetic improvements the new Monitor One also features radiused edges for reduced edge diffraction along with improved porting – thanks to the next–generation of our exclusive Super Port venting technology – to eliminate the “choking” effect of smaller shorter ports. This time Herzog travels to Antarctica in order to deliver a funny visually arresting dreamlike glimpse into Earth's most mysterious continent. Herzog begins by interviewing the many bizarre and unique individuals who have chosen to live and work in the secluded frozen Mc Murdo Station. These characters aren't far removed from Herzog's quirkiest narrative features; as he interrogates them it is clear just how amused he is by their off-kilter personalities. After a while he leaves the humans behind in order to focus on the creatures that populate the continent--most notably seals and penguins. In one unforgettable sequence a lone penguin breaks off from the pack and ventures off into the distance never to be heard from again. Herzog's subsequent questioning of an expert in which he contemplates a penguin's ability to become deranged is the director at his most overtly humorous--but there's a sincerity to his questioning that keeps it from sarcasm. The film builds to a gorgeous haunting conclusion in which producer/composer/cohort Henry Kaiser takes a camera along with him deep into the sea under all of that ice at which point we are exposed to magical visions that feel downright otherworldly. Deftly balancing humour and seriousness ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD is another gem in Herzog's already legendary canon.
