This elegant, figure hugging vintage wedding dress is from the Vogue Special Design collection, estimated to be from the 1950s but without size or fabric content labels. Please see below for actual measurements. It is made in old white satin brocade that has an attractive pattern of what are best described as sprays of pine needles. Front and back necklines are scooped and the dress closes with a long centre back zip and is fully lined. The side panels of the front bodice are princess line bust shaping down to the waist where they are stitched onto the skirt. The centre panel is cut all in one with the skirt front. Where the skirt is joined to the front side panels you have two pleats to give extra fullness. The waistline at the back drops down to a V and both bodice and skirt have darts for a trim fit. The skirt curves out at the hemline into a 16 ins train. The long fitted sleeves dip down to a point at the wrist and the vents close with the ever popular rouleau loops and covered buttons. There is a tiny spot on the back of the left hand sleeve and a pale yellowy stain near the end of the train, neither stand out. Due to the ambiguity of “standard” sizing from retailer to retailer, clothing from the Bournemouth Depot is now being measured. Please check these measurements before purchasing to ensure correct fitting. Use the “standard” sizing as a guide only. A beautiful Monsoon long evening dress in a subtle hot chocolate colour that tones perfectly with the pink silk flower design. The flowers on the front are further enhanced with a scattering of sequins and beads. This is one cut that will always give pleasure - slinky bias cut soft peu de soi fabric. "The feel of silk" fabric is 51% silk and 49% viscose. The dress is easy fit with no bust darts, slightly waisted side seam and no zip; the bias cut allows stretch where necessary to fit but leaves a smooth body line. A clever touch in this design is a lightly beaded hemline that holds the skirt line and allows the chiffon frill to float. An added accessory 44 ins long narrow frill is included which can be used in various ways. The front is straight cut with a slight cowl drape and double spaghetti straps. The back has a V shape. A waterfall plain chiffon frill falls from the left hip and opens into a curved slit from knee level. The frill continues round the hemline. The chiffon frill has been snagged round the hemline (probably by the shoes) and this has been ironed out and does not detract from the look.
