This time, the axle is in a single piece firmly fixed to the right pedal crank of the crankset. The perfect coupling between central pin and pedal crank is ensured thanks to the particular geometry of the two components; this solution also makes it possible to eliminate the potential play between the different materials. To make the bottom bracket more efficient, we also worked on the inner part. Thanks to an elaborate sequence of thicknesses, we were able to obtain an incredibly light axle while offering an absolute response in terms of rigidity. Thanks to the studies conducted by the Campy Tech Lab engineers, material was removed in the zones that could be lightened but at the same time the points of maximum stress were strengthened. Only in this way was it possible to achieve such a high technical value. A careful working out of the dimensions made it possible to maintain the lateral measurements already defined with the "elder brother" Ultra Torque, thus guaranteeing the maximum freedom of movement and reducing the possibility of contact with the shoes. The Campagnolo engineers concentrated on ensuring that installation and servicing would be extremely simple. The most complicated work has been done, so now it's up to you to carry out four simple steps to fit the Power Torque System crankset quickly and with no potential for error. The right-hand bearing is already locked in the axle in correspondence with the crankset; the other is pre-inserted in the left-hand cup. No special tool is required, and the new crankset is ready to propel you over endless miles. That's right, because another one of the objectives of the Power Torque System project was prolonged operating resistance. The tests conducted by the Campy Tech Lab were very exacting in this regard. Thanks to the hard work of the Fulcrum engineers, the only thing the new Racing 1 wheels have in common with the previous model is the name. The two versions of Fulcrum Racing 1 have been further improved for 2010, in both the clincher and 2-Way Fit versions. Certain modifications made to the already high performing 2-Way Fit version have raised the bar again on these wheels, and the clincher version has been radically modified, with weight reduced by a full 121gr. Lightened profile. The clincher model will have a new lightened rim profile achieved thanks to a new production process for the extrusions. This new process enables Fulcrum to reduce the mass of the rim without compromising its structural resistance. This is a big advantage, especially from the point of view of reducing the peripheral mass and therefore the performance features in terms of reactivity. Differentiated profile. The new Racing 1 clincher version will have differentiated front and rear rims: 26 mm of height for the front and 30 mm for the rear. This means excellent aerodynamic penetration for the front wheel and extremely effective power transmission, even during off the seat riding, for the rear. New hubs. The new Racing 1 clincher version hubs are again in aluminium, but compared to the previous version they have been lightened and redesigned to house the new straight head spokes. New spokes. The spokes are brand new, in aluminium with central cross-section of 2.6 mm for both models of the 2010 range. Thanks to these spokes, the new Racing 1™ wheels boast a considerable reduction in weight while maintaining the same values of resistance as the previous version. New graphics. The Racing 1 clincher wheel will have a new graphic look, the same shared by all models of the Fulcrum 2010 Road range. Dynamic Balance™: Unlike carbon rims, all the aluminium rims are joined. The joint, though indispensable, entails a concentration of material in a single point and creates an annoying "jump" effect at speed. Fulcrum® has eliminated this annoying problem with the Dynamic Balance™ patent. The concept is simple and elegant: balance the mass of the joint with a mass of the same weight. For top models, this is obtained by a special operation on the section of the rim opposite the rim joint. For entry-level models, Dynamic Balance™ is obtained by using two oversized spokes in the section opposite the joint. The result is a wheel with perfectly balanced rotational dynamics.
