Campagnolo Record 10 Speed Carbon Double Chainset: Campagnolo's designers were given the task of maximizing the drivetrain stiffness of your bike without making any sacrifices in either bottom bracket drag or in Q-Factor. The result was the Ultra Torque system. The new Record crankset with integrated bottom bracket is the most technologically advanced version of the Ultra-Torque system. The oversize axle system with outer cups is combined with a carbon fibre structure which is completely hollow internally. Not only is the main crank arm hollow, but also the small arms supporting the chainrings of the RH crank. We have called this new technology Ultra-Hollow Structure and it is created using a unique method, developed by Campagnolo, which combines extremely high-pressure moulding, capable of compacting the fibres of the structure like no other process, with hollowing of the structure, removing material from areas which have no structural function. The result is that oversize cranks are obtained, characterized by lightness, strength, rigidity and long life without precedents. Unlike cranks of the previous generation, which had a metal insert for interfacing with the bottom bracket axle, Ultra Torque carbon cranks have an oversize steel axle fixed directly to the carbon structure of the crank, giving a considerable weight saving. Despite the use of outer cups, the Q factor and the lateral dimensions in the bottom bracket area remain substantially unchanged and do not require the athlete to adopt biomechanically incorrect pedalling positions. Match this technology to the Ultra-Drive EPS chainrings with antifriction treatment and the end result is a svelte 643g chainset with unmatched performance. Ergonomic Campagnolo found a way to permanently conjoin the semi-axles of the bottom bracket to the respective crankset arms. This redesign made it possible to considerably reduce the lateral dimensions at the axle level and prevent annoying contact with the ankles when turning the pedals. Simple to maintain Assembly is simplistic: one single oversize bolt is enough to integrate the two semi-axles. With regard to torque transmission efficiency, this system is equally as effective as a single piece axle. More performance Furthermore, despite the narrow side profile, Campagnolo have been able to position the bearings outside the bottom bracket shell, resulting in greater axle rigidity from the increased axle diameter. This breakthrough was obtained by using an ingenious mechanical system derived from many years' motoring experience in the rotation axle and engine shaft coupling sector: the Hirth joint. In short , this is a joint with self-centring and self-aligning frontal teeth located in the middle of the bottom-bracket axle where the ends of the semi-axles, integrated with the crankset arms, come into contact. Record cranks are available Race or Compact format with 170mm, 172.5mm, and 175mm crank lengths. Requires the use of a Record Ultra Torque bottom bracket.
