Torquato AG Product Information
Espresso saucer from the Brasserie range, which has been one of the classics of the French catering trade since the 1920s. Every bistro, brasserie and restaurant could have its menu fired on to its own crockery. Today's version features the menu from the fictitious "Grande Brasserie Nationale, 33 Rue de la République – Consommation de Premier Choix" – cover charge is 10 centimes, bread included. The wine list ranges from 1 to 6 francs, while food can be bought from 20 centimes. For almost 200 years, Pillivuyt has been producing porcelain whose robustness and heat resistance have led it to become internationally known as simply the best French restaurant chinaware. The robustness of the products is the result of a special firing process: in the first stage, all parts are shaped and then pre-fired at approx. 1000 °C; next, they are glazed and fired a second time at more than 1400 °C to obtain a very hard, scratch-resistant surface and a pure, deep white. After the decoration has been applied, they are fired again at approx. 1000 °C, which seals it into the glaze and makes it virtually indestructible – and, of course, dishwasher safe. The individual parts are in the kiln for more than 30 hours in total. Diameter 12.5 cm.

Movie based on the annual awards honouring those who've killed themselves in really idiotic ways in the past year. Michael Burrows (Joseph Fiennes), a zealously curious forensic investigator, is teamed with insurance investigator Siri Taylor (Winona Ryder) in a fascinating journey across the U.S. to try and create a character profile for a typical Darwin Award-winner. The film is a collection of re-enactments of past Darwin winners like the JATO incident in which a former Air Force sergeant strapped a Jet Assisted Take Off unit to his car and fired himself at between 200 and 300mph, into a cliff face. He'd burned out the brakes on his car, taken off for 1.3 miles and impacted with a cliff face 125 feet up, leaving a 3 foot crater in the rockface. This and other belief-beggaring Darwins are re-created lovingly and humorously with an all-star ensemble cast.
