Score available separately: SOS04044 Commissioned by the BBC and premiered by the Chilingirian String Quartet.Quoting Wood: In my Second and Third Quartets I attempted sectional, agglutinative forms: in my Fourth I return to the conventional four movement form of my First Quartet of 1962. Both works build up (as in the 19th century symphony) to the Finale, thus making it the most substantial movement, which provides a climax to the work. The First Movement has, in both works, only the status of an Introduction.But there the consciously willed resemblances end. This Introduction follows the Second Quartet to a certain extent, in that it provides a sort of 'cauldron', from which elements to be used later can all be plucked. Its opening will reappear at various points throughout the work, most completely at a climatic point of the Finale (bar 110). Subsequent material will be more fully worked out in the second movement, a large Scherzo. The Introduction concludes with an unusually placed violin cadenza (itself a rare feature in a string quartet, the idea lifted from Elliott Carter's First Quartet) of which the opening is to reappear halfway through the Finale.The Scherzo (which follows attacca) does not have at its centre a discretely characterized Trio: a figure in double-stops like a distant fanfare supplies the necessary contrast of a second idea. The Slow Movement has a secondary idea first heard on the cello and marked appassionato: an agitato middle section recalls the opening of the work, but in a formulation which will be found closely to anticipate its reappearance in the Finale.The Finale is planned on a broad scale. Only after a fully worked exposition of both primary and secondary material does the opening of the whole work return, now in a greatly extended form. Then, at bar 140, the tune of the violin cadenza is first harmonized in fanfare style on the upper instruments, then presented as a chorale on the lower ones, with a rushing semiquaver accompaniment above. This climatic activity mounts to the very end.The work is dedicated to the Chilingirian Quartet, old friends over many years.Score available separately: SOS04044

Generally more/stronger springs are required for heavier users and too many springs can effect performance for lighter users. Bounce Mat: All Big Air Trampoline jump mats are made in the USA and manufactured from Grade A Permatron. Permatron is a unique material that can be left outside in a garden all year round and gives an excellent cushioned bounce. We have experimented with more cheap Permatron mats manufactured from outside of the USA and found the quality to be considerably poorer. The V rings used to attach the jump mat to the frame are secured with an eight row stitch for extreme durability. Safety Padding: Big Air Trampolines have been designed with both quality and safety in mind. All Big Air Trampoline safety padding uses a special shock absorbing closed cell polyethylene to provide protection from the trampoline frame and springs. There is an extra thick layer of padding around the edge to provide added protection from the hard steel frame of the trampoline. Safety Enclosure: The Big Air Trampoline comes with a free standing safety net that secures to the leg of the trampoline with specially adapted galvanised steel clamps. We have found that although more expensive to manufacture this design of safety net is far sturdier than other more cheap safety nets which attach to the top of the trampoline legs. The mesh of the safety net is made from super strong and flexible Terylene thread and the intelligent design uses a free standing net to minimalise the risk of accidents involving the upright posts. The HOT galvanisation process ensures that the trampoline frame sections are galvanised inside and out, the better for garden and outdoor use (unlike most other more cheap galvanised frames that are only galvanised on the exterior of the frame). Springs: 48 Galvanised and Zinc plated all new Extreme Bounce 200mm springs with increased helical circumference and greater resilience - leading to improved energy retention in the spring recoil. The result of this is increased bounce for the heaviest of users whilst maintaining performance for lighter users. Spring quality and quantity should be set up dependant on the most common user weight. Generally more/stronger springs are required for heavier users and too many springs can effect performance for lighter users. This spring set up will produce the best all round performance for the whole family. More experienced users looking for that extra bounce should consider the Big Air Extreme range with more of these special Extreme Bounce springs. Bounce Mat: All Big Air Trampoline jump mats are made in the USA and manufactured from Grade A Permatron. Permatron is a unique material that can be left outside in a garden all year round and gives an excellent cushioned bounce. We have experimented with more cheap Permatron mats manufactured from outside of the USA and found the quality to be considerably poorer. The V rings used to attach the jump mat to the frame are secured with an eight row stitch for extreme durability. Safety Padding: Big Air Trampolines have been designed with both quality and safety in mind. All Big Air Trampoline safety padding uses a special shock absorbing closed cell polyethylene to provide protection from the trampoline frame and springs. There is an extra thick layer of padding around the edge to provide added protection from the hard steel frame of the trampoline. These deluxe trampoline pads are also UV treated to protect against harmful rays from the sun. Quality Standard: GS/TUV certification comes as standard on all Big Air Trampolines. Warranty: 5 year warranty on all frame parts. All other parts are subject to the standard UK Sport Imports warranty. Dimensions: 8ft Diameter, 20 Inch Height. Max User Weight: Big Air trampolines are the industry heavyweights with a maximum user weight of 24 Stone, 150KG. Due to the height of this 8ft version it is not suitable for adults.
