She marries Johnny but his passion for buying and selling nightclubs drives them apart. So Jed steps in hoping to win Mary's heart - until fate steps in and changes the lives of all three. The most outstanding number is Astaire's famous Puttin' on the Ritz a split-screen gem with a chorus of miniature Astaires tap-dancing behind him. Designed by Astaire it took five weeks of back-breaking physical work to achieve. Other highlights find Astaire and Crosby as A Couple of Song and Dance Men and Crosby crooning a wealth of Berlin tunes including the Oscar nominated You Keep Coming Back Like A Song. Rugged and reliable it was operated by Bomber Command Coastal Command and Transport Command possessing a level of versatility second to none serving in almost every theatre of War. By the autumn of 1945 nearly 11 500 had been built. As the last one rolled off the Vickers' production lines the Wimpy as it was affectionately known had secured its place in history as one of the truly great aircraft of the Second World War DISC 2 - Bomber Command 1939 - 1945A condensed yet comprehensive look at the development and operations of RAF Bomber Command from a fledgling force at the outbreak of hostilities to one of the most potent forces in the World on the final day. This DVD looks at the early years of 1939-1940 when the force suffered huge losses through to 1941 when they began to possess the means of victory. In 1942 they developed new tactics and by 1943 with the use of the Pathfinder Force they were making 1 000 bomber raids on Germany and for the next two years the Nazis reaped the Whirlwind that 'Bomber Harris' had promised them. By 1945 they had destroyed most of Germany's towns and cities and broken the morale of the population.DISC 3 - The Story Of The Lancaster As RAF Bomber Command took the war to the enemy under Air Chief Marshall Arthur Harris the four-engined Avro Lancaster reigned supreme replacing the rugged reliable Wellington in laying waste to German cities by night. This most successful of all World War II 'heavies' could carry more than its own weight in bomb lead including the 22 000 pound Grand Slam Earthquake bomb - the biggest conventional weapon ever made. And when fearless Guy Gibson led 617 Squadron to fame on the low-level Dambuster raid - one of the war's most daring operations - the Lancaster was confirmed as an aviation legend. With recent colour film of 'City of Lincoln' the RAF's last airworthy Lancaster among the wartime footage this is the Lancaster's dramatic story.DISC 4 - Bombers - The Story Of Strategic Bombing Strategic bombing was first used by the Germans in the 1940 Blitz and became the keystone of Allied strategy in World War Two. As British Lancasters hit at the heart of Germany by night the US Eighth Air Force Flying Fortresses bombed the industrial centres by day resulting in a round-the-clock bombardment that would not only tear the heart out of Hitler's war but would reduce the German morale to rubble. Rare archive material and dramatic film footage tells the story of a controversial and costly strategy that was to be seen in operation in later years during the war between the United States and Vietnam.DISC 5 - Bombers Of World War Two Which was the most famous bomber of World War Two? This DVD looks at all the legendary bombers and highlights their wartime action throughout the global conflict. They differ widely in appearance and operational efficiency but they all had one thing in common: they all possessed some claim to fame.DISC 6 - Daylight Bombing Raids Over Europe Whilst the Royal Air Force concentrated on bombing Germany by night the United States Air Force carried out a dangerous strategic bombing campaign against Nazi Germany during daylight hours. On every raid some bombers suffered damage exploding in mid-air falling from the sky in pieces or in tears of flames. Operating from airfield in rural England the Flying Fortresses and Liberator Bombers of the Eighth Air Force and later the Ninth Air Force escorted by the Thunderbolt and Mustang fighters learned a hard lesson in the skies over Europe.
